Her stare was immense.
As he stared back, she could see his eyes full of defeat. He knew it was over.
Her heart pounded at the intensity of the fear that this night had wrought, at the presence of her robber, at the climax of this whole nightmare.
She didn’t blink. Neither did he. That’s when the crescendo started in her head, urgently drumming over her heart beat.
His hand unclenched at the dollars in his fist, letting them fall to the ground, as his eyes sparkled with the fear he had given her all night. Her thoughts didn’t react with contempt. She was too swept up in this reality, still not believing it was all finally over.
The shouts from police sounded far away, even though they surrounded both of them. Her mind was suddenly so numb from all of this…
She watched as he raised his hands, as if in slow motion. She blinked and her senses were returned to her full force, and two officers rushed in to take him away, the shouts around her in the chill night bombarding her ears.
It was all over…
