“You probably don’t remember,” she said, “but twelve years ago you beat me bloody on this very street corner.I never forgave you for that.”

“I remember,” he said, “Because that was the day my mother left me.”

  1. Well, that was a good one. Concise, yet spanning twelve years of two lives and even more, when you follow the story back into childhood. Good writing.
